Rethinking Independent Reading

Silent reading doesn’t guarantee active engagement. Because it’s quiet, students often appear on-task while merely complying with directions. We can transform this time to ensure students are actually doing the work of reading. Our goal is to transition from silent, sustained independent reading to an intentional, monitored, and collaborative learning block. You’ll learn how to shift independent reading from a passive activity into an active, social, and intentional learning experience with a tool to track accountability, monitor progress, and foster student collaboration. This live, virtual workshop will not be recorded.
