About the film:

Gone Guys explores a “quiet crisis” in our communities, hidden in plain sight: the increasing disengagement and isolation of boys and young men. Set in rural Vermont, this documentary brings national data to life highlighting the struggles faced by boys and young men and sets the stage for a meaningful conversation.

Bios:

Shaun Stephens is a speech-language pathologist with deep experience working with children and adults on many aspects of communication and social cognition, with specialized focus on social cognition, discourse-level language, and alternative-augmentative communication (AAC). He has a passion for using hands-on and experiential learning, and started a Makerspace at the Stern Center: the Social Learning Arts and Makerspace (SLAM). Shaun has worked at the Stern Center since 2013, as well as at a medical center, schools, and early childhood programs. He is a recipient of the Bellcate Community Award in 2024, that recognizes achievements in supporting their students.

Mason Merriam, Director Of Facility & Operations at Generator Makerspace is a Vermont Native with a career spanning multiple art and maintenance industries over the last decade and a half, Mason is a person who has worn many hats in his life. After getting his B.A in Theater, he moved to NYC to work as a freelance carpenter off-Broadway. Returning to Vermont in 2014, Mason began his journey as a maintenance technician at Burlington Housing Authority, and then UVM Medical Center, and now Generator.

Generator is Burlington’s premier makerspace — a vibrant hub where creativity, innovation, and collaboration come to life. Founded in 2014, Generator brings together artists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and curious minds under one roof to share knowledge, tools, and inspiration. We believe that when people from different backgrounds connect and create together, powerful things happen — new skills are learned, ideas are born, and businesses take root. https://generatorvt.com/
