Free Classroom Tools to Support Handwriting, Spelling, and Reading Fluency

January 16, 2026

Explore our collection of free classroom resources designed to support foundational literacy skills, including a colorful handwriting poster that reinforces proper writing posture; a helpful spelling errors chart that explains the three main types of spelling mistakes; and student-friendly fluency bookmarks, complete with a teacher guide, to build confident, expressive reading in grades K–2. Together, these tools provide educators with practical, easy-to-use supports for strengthening handwriting, spelling, and reading fluency in the classroom or at home.

Free Handwriting Poster

Good handwriting starts with great posture! Proper writing posture helps students write with more control, stability, and comfort, which helps reduce fatigue and results in more legible handwriting. Download our free, colorful poster as a fun, visual reminder to support students in sitting, holding, and writing their best.

Free Spelling Errors Chart

Did you know that there are three main types of spelling errors? Download this free poster to help you analyze student spelling!

Free Fluency Bookmarks

How do we explain what fluent reading is for students, especially in grades K-2? These free, student-friendly bookmarks and the accompanying teacher guide can help! Created by my Stern Center colleague Monica Crumback, these bookmarks are perfect for printing, laminating, and having students use when they read aloud.

If you need resources for students in grades 3-12, be sure to sign up for Monica’s webinar, Remember to Have Them Read. She has created age-appropriate fluency tools for older students that you can immediately use in your instruction!
