WE SEE YOUR KID
Now’s the time to make meaningful connections.
How We Help
Many kids don’t immediately “get it” about how to connect with others, especially with their peers. That’s why Stern Center instructors specialize in coaching kids who are experiencing challenges with interpersonal connections. Social learning sessions, one-to-one or in small, well-matched groups, are a safe place to practice navigating the unwritten “rules” of communication and social interaction. Kids get better at small talk while playing games that improve understanding of others’ viewpoints, and engage in activities that promote turn-taking, patience, and inclusion. Bringing these skills into home, school, work, and friendship situations is the common goal of this purposeful, supported learning time.

Why Some Kids Struggle
Kids may struggle socially for many reasons; often, it has less to do with motivation and more with how their brains process information. Neurological differences in the areas of the brain responsible for social attention, language, sensory processing, and executive functioning can make it harder to read facial expressions, interpret tone of voice, shift attention, manage emotions, or respond quickly in conversation. When the brain is working overtime just to process sounds, sights, or feelings, there’s less mental energy left for picking up subtle social cues, which can make interactions feel confusing, overwhelming, or exhausting. For these kids, intervention can help them flourish.
