We will compare both formal and informal assessment, and what different types of tests contribute to our knowledge of students. We will discuss what we are measuring, what we are learning, and how we link these results to effective instructional practices.

This interactive workshop will focus on the orthographic processor: what it is, how it develops, and what it means for instruction. We will look at the reading brain, and the importance of speech sound awareness as a foundation for word recognition fluency, the development of the orthographic lexicon (sight word vocabulary), and more.

Introduction to Orton-Gillingham for Upper Grades
The Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach is the underlying foundation of all multisensory, structured literacy instruction. You will gain a basic understanding of the OG Approach and learn how to design integrated reading and spelling lessons for grades 3-12. You will leave class with a detailed guide for teaching suffixes, prefixes, Greek, and Latin roots. This interactive online course will cover the structure of the English language and how to teach it sequentially.
Reading and the Brain
This interactive course is designed for the Orton-Gillingham (OG) or Structured Literacy (SL) educator who already has a basic understanding of the structure of the English language and wishes to learn more about the neuroscience of reading. This workshop will cover progress monitoring, class-wide mastery criteria, and how to provide cumulative review as you progress through the Scope & Sequence.
